The FIM Board of Directors met in the new FIM Headquarters

On this occasion, the Board addressed several topics, in particular the following:


In the framework of the grand opening ceremony of the new Federation’s headquarters, the FIM Board of Directors met for the third time in 2024 in Mies (Switzerland) on 9 October.

Sport: All disciplines were discussed with a focus on the FIM Sidecar World Championship, the FIM EBK World Cup, the FIM Supercross World Championship, the E-Xplorer World Cup promoters as well as the Trial discipline. The Board also addressed the main changes in technical regulations to be implemented in the Superbike discipline as of 2025 and in the MotoGP as of 2027. The 2024 FIM SuperEnduro World Championship was selected to be the first-ever FIM World Championship for which electric motorcycles will be eligible to compete along with internal combustion engines. Technical Regulations, including the electric Equivalence of Technologies (EOT) and Balance of Performance (BOP) requirements, were presented. Subject to the approval of the General Assembly, the Board agreed to the creation of the FIM Sand Races World Championship, the FIM SGP4 World Championship, the FIM Endurance World Trophy, as well as the FIM X-Trial Trophy. In addition, the Board agreed with the creation of a Youth Class in the FIM SuperEnduro World Cup. A detailed status report of the FIM Intercontinental Games were presented to the Board. This biennial event, bringing together the six CONUs and dedicated to circuit racing, will complete the FIM’s 120th anniversary celebrations this year and be staged at the Circuito de Jerez – Ángel Nieto in Jerez de la Frontera (Spain) on 30 November and 1 December 2024. The creation of a licence for team members including an insurance was also approved.

Finance: The Board agreed on a 2025 budget which will be presented to the General Assembly for approval. In addition, the updated 2024 forecast was shared. The Board also approved the appointment of the external auditors Deloitte for the 2025-2027 financial statements.

Governance: A new judicial system, including the creation of the International Court of Appel (CAI), was agreed by the Board and will be submitted to the General Assembly for consideration. A bedrock of Continental Unions’ (CONU) Statutes whose objective is to harmonise CONU Statutes and align them on those of the FIM, while considering certain specificities in the different continents, was approved.

Affiliations: The Board decided to submit the expulsion of Paraguay (FEPAM) as well as the affiliations of Paraguay (FEMOP), Kosovo (FMKS) and Uzbekistan (NAFKU) for approval to the General Assembly.

Situation in Ukraine: The Board of Directors reiterated its sympathy and solidarity with all those suffering, as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After having carefully considered the situation, the Board once again confirmed the decisions made during its extraordinary meeting on 5 March 2022. One of the consequences of these decisions is that no Russian and Belarusian riders, teams and officials can participate in FIM events and activities (FIM World Championships and FIM Prize Events) until further notice. The FIM will continue to monitor the evolution of the situation, taking into account the specificity of motorcycle sport.

Liaison with National Federations/Continental Unions: An update was provided on the discussions held and issues addressed during the FMN/CONU Secretaries General meeting hosted recently by the Deutscher Motor Sport Bund e.V. (DMSB) in Frankfurt (Germany). In addition, a report on the FMNs/CONUs liaison initiatives and activities was shared.

Training: A new format of technical seminars as well as the updated FIM Training Camps Guidelines were approved.

Marketing and Digital: Key data on the 2024 and 2025 6DAYS editions, new partnerships and a status on the FIM Racing Motorcycles Museum were presented to the Board. In addition, the newly created FIM Anthem was unveiled.

Communication: In the framework of the celebrations of the 120th anniversary of the FIM, the newly edited book “120 years of motorcycling”, retracing the activities of the FIM during the last two decades, in the continuity of the book commemorating the centenary, was given to the Board members.

Mr Jean-Paul Gombeaud, Sports Director, was appointed Director ad-interim of the Classic Motorcycles Commission (CMC).

Awards & Recognition: The Board awarded distinctions as well as an honorary membership, subject to approval by the General Assembly.

Amendments to the Codes: The Board approved amendments to the Statutes, By-Laws and Sporting Code as well as new calendar and licence fees that will be submitted to the 2024 General Assembly for consideration. New and revised classes/categories in FIM World Championships and FIM Prizes were agreed on. Several amendments to the Medical Code and the Code for Touristic Gatherings were also validated by the Board. In addition, a fully revised edition of the Code of Ethics was endorsed.

FIM-FIA Committee: Mr Jan Stovicek (Chair) provided a progress report on the joint projects and activities on themes such as the “United Against Online Abuse” coalition charter.

International Foundation of Motorcycling (IFM): The Board was informed that the 2023 audited financial statements and management report had been approved by the Foundation Board as well as the Swiss supervisory authority for the foundations.

FIM Commissions Conference: The 2025 FIM Commission Conference will be held at the FIM Headquarter in Mies (Switzerland) and in Divonne-les-Bains (France) from 7 to 9 February 2025. The 2026 FIM Commissions Conference will be held from 2 to 9 February 2026 in Lyon (France).

The CONU Presidents, Board Committees, Working Groups and Departments of the Administration presented their progress reports on their respective projects to the Board.
