The Board of Directors met at The Westin Palace Madrid in Madrid (Spain) on 5 May, ahead of the FIM MXGP/MX2 Motocross World Championship event to be held in intu-Xanadú Arroyomolinos (Spain) during the weekend.
On this occasion, the Board addressed several topics, in particular the following:
Situation in Ukraine: The Board of Directors reiterated its sympathy and solidarity with all those suffering, as a result of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. After having carefully considered the latest statements of the IOC and the fact that no favourable evolution of the situation had been noted in Ukraine, the Board once again confirmed the decisions taken at its extraordinary meeting on 5 March 2022. The FIM will continue to monitor the evolution of the situation, taking into account the specificity of motorcycle sport.
Sport: The Board approved the creation of the FIM Women World Championship starting in 2024. All disciplines were discussed with a focus on the promotion of the FIM Trial World Championship. A tender will be launched for the promotion of the FIM SuperEnduro World Championship as of 2025. An agreement in principle was reached for the inclusion of electric motorcycles in Supercross and SuperEnduro disciplines. The Board reinforced the efforts deployed by the FIM towards sound reduction by approving sound limits for all the off-road disciplines as of 2024 except for the FIM Motocross World Championship, which will be implemented in 2025. The FIM presentation at the FIM Superbike World Championship round at the TT Circuit Assen in The Netherlands on 21 April, during which the FIM’s mission statement for global motorcycle sport was reiterated, was very well received. The ongoing objective is to continue to stress the role of the FIM to a worldwide audience and highlight the commitment taken by the world governing body for motorcycle sport to advocate for safety and fair play through its all-encompassing support network.
Finance: The Board approved the 2022 audited financial statements that will be submitted to the General Assembly on 1 December 2023 in Liverpool (UK). In addition, the 2023 forecast was presented.
International Transport Forum (ITF): The FIM will be present at the 2023 ITF as main sponsor of the event and will have an exhibition stand offering visibility to the FIM mobility, road safety and public affairs initiatives. The FIM President, the FIM Deputy CEO as well as the CPM Director and Members will participate in the forum, whose main theme will be “Transport enabling sustainable economies”. The summit will reflect and share perspectives on the role of transport as an enabler of economic growth that also drives environmental and social sustainability.
Marketing and Digital: Topics such as the promotion of the FIM Trial World Championship, an update of the “Over-The-Top” (OTT) project and the “FIM Rides the World” video series were presented to the Board.
Liaison with National Federations/Continental Unions: An update on the FMNs/CONUs liaison initiatives and activities was shared. The biennial survey was sent to all FMNs. The next FMNs & CONUs Secretaries General Meeting will take place in Paris (France) on 4 & 5 October and will be hosted by the Fédération Française de Motocyclisme (FFM).
120th anniversary of the FIM: The FIM will celebrate its 120th anniversary in 2024. Several initiatives are considered for this special occasion such as the launch of the Intercontinental Games, the creation of a new FIM logo, the editing of a FIM book tracing the history of the Federation over the last two decades, the inauguration of the new FIM HQ, a new FIM Hospitality and the creation of the Motorcycle Sport Museum, including a Hall of Fame. Ms Françoise Emery, FIM CEO, was appointed as Coordinator of the project of the celebration of the 120th anniversary of the FIM.
Amendments to the Codes: The Board approved amendments to the By-Laws and Sporting Code that will be submitted to the 2023 General Assembly for consideration. Several amendments to the Medical Code as well as to the Environmental Code were also approved by the Board.

FIM-FIA Committee: Following the first ever meeting of the FIM-FIA Committee on 7 February in Lille (France) in the framework of the 2023 FIM Commissions Conference, Mr Jan Stovicek, Chair of the FIM-FIA Committee, provided a progress report on the joint projects and activities on themes such as safety, sustainability, medical and women. The next meeting will take place on 20 June in Cordoba (Spain) ahead of the FIA World Council.
International Foundation for Motorcycling (IFM): The Foundation Board met on 6 May and addressed the following main topics: approval of the 2022 audited financial statements and the 2023 activities.
In addition, the CONU Presidents, Board Committees, Working Groups and Departments of the Administration presented to the Board their progress reports on their respective projects.
