The Jordan Baja has become a must-attend event for off-road motorcycle racing enthusiasts. After claiming a fourth victory last November, Mohammed Al-Balooshi will again be the man to beat in Jordan.
The Dubai-based reigning champion currently leads the FIM Bajas World Cup from Lebanese rider Rafic Eid. This third round attracts international riders ready to take on the challenge of Jordan’s varied landscapes and demanding terrain.
After a short Prologue stage on Thursday, April 10th to determine the staring order for the first special stage, competitors will attend the traditional ceremonial start at the Arab Revolt Plaza on the outskirts of Aqaba, starting at 17.15hrs.
On Friday, April 11th, riders will travel to the impressive Wadi Rum region of southern Jordan for the first 334km stage, which is divided into two sections of 200.60km and 133.53km.
On Saturday, April 12th, the Hashemite Kingdom’s premier off-road event will feature a shorter 185.30km stage before returning to Aqaba for the ceremonial finish and prize giving. In a total route of 749km, competitors will tackle 522.43km against the clock in the challenging route designed by Jordan Motorsport.
Al-Balooshi and Eid are the only two riders to have participated in the first two rounds on motorcycles. Thomas Cross (Kove) has 10 points, Sultan Al-Shanquity (KTM), Hamdan Al-Ali (KTM) and Philip Horlemann (KTM) have seven points and Barry Howe (Husqvarna) has five. They will all be in the running.
In the quad category, Hani Al-Noumesi leads with 36 points. He faces former Jordan Baja winnerAbdulaziz Al-Shayban and Haitham Al-Tuwaijri, who currently has 25 points.
