FIM Speedway Youth Gold Trophy awaits

Potential future superstars of the sport will get the chance to showcase their talents to an international audience this Saturday (8 July) when the FIM Speedway Youth Gold Trophy is staged at Holsted in Denmark.

For riders aged between eleven to fifteen years old, the eighteen-strong entry will compete on the one-hundred-and-eighty-metre circuit on machines limited to 85cc.

Most popular among riders from Scandinavian countries, since the FIM Speedway Youth Gold Trophy was first held in 2001 there have been eighteen Danish winners, although last year’s champion was Germany’s Janek Konzack who triumphed on home soil at Wolfslake twelve months ago.

For 2023 a total of seven different nationalities will be represented. The majority of riders are from Denmark, but there are also entries from Sweden, Finland, Norway, Germany, Romania and Australia.

While it is impossible to identify any pre-event favourites, out of the seven riders lining up on Saturday who competed last year, Danes Villads Pedersen and Christian Rasmussen were highest placed in fourth and fifth while Germany’s Carlos Gennerich was eighth and Tyr Söderblom from Sweden was tenth.

Previous FIM Speedway Youth Gold Trophy winners who have gone on to become global stars include Denmark’s Leon Madsen who triumphed at the inaugural event twenty-two years ago and is currently lying fifth in this year’s FIM Speedway Grand Prix points table after ending 2022 as SGP World Vice Champion.
