The FIM Mototour of Nations, which took place in Greece from 7 to 11 September, redefined organisational standards for motorcycle touring gatherings.
The event was hosted in the city of Ioannina, in the Epirus region, the fascinating north-western corner of Greece facing the Ionian Sea and surrounded by the Mount Pindus national park.
A total of 258 participants from 20 Countries had the chance to visit and experience the “true” Greece; far from the main tourist destinations where people are crowded and packed on small islands, riders and passengers had three days of deep insight at the flourishing nature, history, culture and traditions of this area. The hospitality was superb, the smile of the organisers was always open and ready and the places visited were breath-taking, in few words, an unforgettable experience.
Motorcyclists visited the coast from Igoumentisa to Parga, discovered the Zagori valley from Metsovo to Vikos gorge, the sanctuary of Dodoni with its famous oracle, the stone bridge of Arta until the cave of Perama. Then, as a last act, the visit of the old citadel of Ioannina and its Ottoman fortress closed the event with a parade through the city.
With the support of the Hellenic Ministry of Sport, the national federation AMOTOE and its beyond sport department, MOTOE, the local authorities, the Epirus Palace Hotel and the organising Moto Clubs (Moto Club of Ioannina and Moto Club of Igoumenitsa) set a high standard in terms of organisational capabilities with this highly successful event.
