For the first time, the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT) features a specific FIM Vintage Women’s Club Team classification. Here in Camerino, Italy, it is the Italian trio of Matilde Gargelli (Puch Frigerio), Elena Ghelfi (Ancillotti) and Laura Mori (Gori) who are breaking ground for women competitors in vintage enduro.
Similar to the FIM 6DAYS®, the newly introduced FIM Vintage Women’s Club Team features three riders per team, but with the ability for each nation to enter more than one team. Although early days for the FIM EVT, interest has already awakened with Gargelli, Ghelfi and Mori making history as the first all-women team to roll off the start ramp.
“It’s great to be here with my teammates,” says Elena Ghelfi. “The FIM EVT is an amazing event and it’s really cool thing to be a part of. I’m excited to represent my club and country and help lead the way for women competitors in this vintage enduro community.
“We might be the only women’s team here this year, but already you can feel the passion for more. I hope we’ve ignited the spark for more women to get involved and represent their country in the years to come.”
As a rider well-versed in modern enduro competition from national to international level, Ghelfi is enjoying the switch to all things vintage in Camerino.
“I’m racing a 1977 125cc Ancillotti for this race. The tracks are nice and challenging, and designed for this kind of motorcycle. It’s lovely to be a part of the FIM EVT and experience this vintage community. I think it’s going to be a fun week.”
The FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy continues to take place over the coming days in Camerino, Italy ending on 7 September.
