Celebrations continue to mark a decade of the KiSS Programme

KiSS is the FIM flagship programme for events that are organised under the three pillars of sustainability – namely social, economic and environment.

The KiSS programme has been realised in different motorcycle disciplines and various countries over a ten-year period. More recently, the programme reached the Asian continent with KiSS Motegi taking place in Japan.

Today, the FIM continues to celebrate these achievements, as we recognise two major contributors to our programme throughout the past decade, those being Marco Riva and the Misano World Circuit (MWC).

Marco, who was the former operation manager of Yamaha, was one of our trailblazers and a founder of the KiSS Programme. Whilst the Misano World Circuit, is somewhere where they are always friendly, supportive, visionary and most importantly, make continuous improvement towards more sustainable facilities and events.

Jorge Viegas - FIM President stated: “For the FIM sustainability is at the core of our objectives and our values. We are working hard to achieve the objectives set out in our strategy, including climate which is one of our priorities. The research and introduction of alternative energies and more sustainable fuels is at the top of our agenda. We want to support, but also influence all sectors of this large industry by being a good example of a responsible and sustainable organisation, whilst not forgetting that the participation of our stakeholders is crucial to the continued success of this programme.”

Andrea Albani - Managing Director of MWC added: “We have worked hard on this project. Starting with KiSS Misano we have given substance and method to a clear vision: to work to contain the environmental footprint of our daily activities, so that it is a stimulus for our guests, partners, teams and riders. Today Misano Green Circuit is an inspiring example of our strategies.”

Marco Riva - A KiSS Founder concluded: “Having worked in motorcycling for thirty-six years in many different areas, the KiSS programme is the thing I am most proud of. My initial inspiration came when I saw all the rubbish left behind by the fans the day after a race, and I knew in that moment that we had to do something to change people’s habits and attitude towards the environment. Thankfully other people shared my vision and provided me with support, particularly Yamaha so I could take the project forward. I then presented this concept to the FIM, and they adopted it and extended it within their own framework, so ten years later it is a complete programme that now includes social, economic and environment aspects all under the topic of sustainability.”
