2025 Danish champion set to join FIM Speedway Weekend of Champions in Vojens

This year’s Danish champion will earn a dream call-up for the nation’s biggest speedway event for a generation, the Deluxe Homeart FIM Speedway GP of Denmark – Vojens on September 13.

The Danish Championship Final takes place in Brovst on June 25 and Denmark’s Motor Union (DMU) and national team manager Nicki Pedersen have agreed to nominate the winner as wild card for the final Speedway GP of 2025.

If the event is won by reigning champion Anders Thomsen or 2023 winner Mikkel Michelsen, who are already members of the Speedway GP line-up, the highest-placed non-SGP rider will receive the wild card. The two track reserves will be nominated by Pedersen.

The coveted wild card was previously awarded to a rider by the national coach, but Pedersen hopes the change will raise the stakes when the country’s finest battle it out for Danish Championship gold.

He said: “Being Danish champion is something special, and the chance to earn the wild card for Vojens only makes the Danish Final even more exciting.

“Competition for the Danish Championship is always extremely fierce, and I look forward to seeing who wins the opportunity to be part of such a huge weekend of racing in Vojens. Hopefully we will see a Danish rider on top of the podium in Speedway GP, SGP2 and SGP4.” The legendary Vojens Speedway Centre, opened by triple FIM Speedway world champion Ole Olsen in 1975, celebrates its 50th anniversary with a spectacular weekend, which will see three world champions crowned at one of the sport’s most storied venues.

The three-round FIM Speedway Under-21 World Championship reaches its climax with the Deluxe Homeart FIM SGP2 of Denmark – Vojens on Friday, September 12. The Speedway GP world champion will then be crowned on Saturday, September 13. More history will be made earlier on Saturday, when the first-ever FIM SGP4 world champion is crowned as the 190cc event for youngsters aged 11-13 takes world-championship status for the first time in 2025.
