On Friday, May 1 Geoff Duke (Order of the British Empire), six-time World Champion and TT winner, peacefully passed away at his home in the Isle of Man. He was known as a legend of Grand Prix racing and was the first rider to promote this discipline internationally after winning three successive World Championships (1953-1955).
He retired at the age of 36 with six World titles and 33 Grand Prix victories in his pocket. Not only was he known for his sporting success, but he was also the first rider to wear one-piece racing leathers and was awarded an OBE in 1953.
The Duke, affectively known so by his fans, will be warmly remembered for his successful and outstanding contributions in the world of motorcycle racing.
